poems by Donald James Dolby
Rootless Roots
My rootless roots came back today
As I stood
Where I stood
A million years before.

Once a sparkling ribbon of never-ending joy
Now reed-ridden
But the same
Always the same for ever.

Oh Dad. Did you see me dreaming
Of the days
The short days
It seems of only yesterday.

A million years is as five minutes only
They have gone
All have gone
To be replaced by time.

Roots pulled up long ago but yet still
They pull me back
Don't go back
It's gone. Forget it.
