poems by Donald James Dolby
A Rattle and a Sigh
I don't think you'll ever know
How glad and sad I was
To be with you that March day
To share your last of this life.

Are you free? Are you nothing?
Are you here? Are you there?

Your last breath I nearly missed;
Oh how I would have rued that thought
But I returned to find
As I thought; you sitting there smiling;
But no; you just said goodbye
With a rattle and a sigh.
